Classical literature is immortal. It is an invaluable asset of civilization
Fantastic and very worth the time to read.
An outstanding effort by Galsworthy. Quite different from the Forsyte series and other novels of his that I've read. A bit like Hardy's Well Beloved, but more realistic. The 3-episode format was very effective, with some sparkling moments in each part. The free edition is a good one.
Three stages in a man's life and loves. Excellent read.
Not Dickens, but who is...very vivid imagery. Characters very clearly mapped. Exciting to read. At times, couldn't put book down. Almost three distinct stories, yet more like vignettes.
I'm glad I found this book. The characters are flawed and unlikeable, but it is written in a way that you want to know what happens to them, whether they will get what they deserve. In a way, it read like a study for the Forsythe Saga. Similar character development.
